Krishna with Gopis Class 12 Painting

Today we are going to discuss about Krishna with Gopis Painting from the syllabus of class 12th. 

Krishna with Gopis Painting is created by Manku. This Painting is from Basohli school of art which is the sub-school of Pahari school. It is kept in National Museum, New Delhi.

The size of Krishna with Gopis Painting is not so big, its size is just 20.5 * 37 cm. The Medium needed to paint this Painting was Tempera (water colour) which was on Paper. The period of the making of this Painting is 1730 AD.


This Painting is created in horizontal view. It is an illustration of Geeta Govinda series.

DESCRIPTION:-



At the centre of the composition, Lord Krishna is embracing (two) of the Gopis. While there are total 5 Gopis in the Painting which are shown adoring Shri Krishna. All the Gopis were decked with beautiful ornaments or jewellery. The crown of the Lord Krishna is shown very beautifully.



A Gopi is standing next to him with folded hands. On the Right side of the composition, there are two Gopis, one is bowing in front of him with folded hands while other is holding a Chauri and praying him. On the Left side of the composition, A Gopi is holding a jug and a glass.



Forest of Vrindravan was clearly shown in the background. The strange quality of Krishna with Gopis Painting is vibrant orange background which helps to make Painting alive. We can see some trees of approx same height with different leaves and shapes.


In the foreground, we can see River Yamuna so we conclude that whatever is happening in this Painting is happening on the banks of River Yamuna.


A small plant is shown with white flowers and two big trees are shown on the Left side. Colour scheme is too good, mostly Red, orange, yellow and light blue or faded blue colours have been used for making this charming Painting.
